The Government of Guyana has begun rolling out its flagship health voucher programme to Guyanese across the country. The initiative aims to offer financial subsidies to citizens in various categories to facilitate health check-ups. Government has said on previous occasions that this programme is part of the broader goal for nurturing a healthy population and as well to gather health data that will influence future health policies and priorities for the State.
According to a pamphlet posted on social media platforms by the Ministry of Health, four major vouchers are available for distribution at all Health Centres countrywide. These are: The Cervical Cancer Screening Voucher of $8,000 for women between the ages of 21 and 65. The Eye Testing & Spectacle Vouchers value at $2,000 and $15,000 respectively for citizens under the age 18 and above 50 years old.
In addition, there is the Universal Adult and Children Health Voucher at a value of $10,000 available to every Guyanese. These vouchers can be used for services at all major health providers across the country and can be uplifted at any Health Centre with the presentation of a valid form of identification.
Government of Guyana is building twelve new state of the art regional hospitals across the country with six of them expected to be commissioned within the second and third quarters of 2025. These hospitals will be equipped with modern health facilities and equipment including CT scanners for the offering of world class health care to citizens.
