The Government of Guyana in collaboration with the Guyana Police Force and the National Data Management Authority (NDMA) has launched the automated speed ticketing system on Monday April 7. The initiative is part of the Government’s Safe Road Intelligent System (SRIS) Project which employs the use of technologically advanced speed cameras and radar speed signs connected to a cloud-based infrastructure which detects and tickets speeding violations.
The system is designed to generate speeding violation tickets automatically and forwarding same to owners of vehicles via SMS or email for those whose contact details are registered with the Guyana Revenue Authority (GRA). In the absence of such details, hardcopy tickets will be delivered or posted to their addresses.

Importantly, the system is programmed to avoid any form of human manipulation and partiality and violators can either opt to contest the violation in court or pay same utilizing online payment apps such as MNG or GRA’s Padna App.
Government noted that the initiative is not intended to penalize drivers but rather to make our roadways safer for all users and as such encourages motorists to abide by speed limits and other traffic regulations along the highways. Government plans to roll out nationwide awareness campaign aims at educating drivers of the system and its benefits.
