President assures Nation that those responsible for public mayhem will be prosecuted
President Irfaan Ali has assured Guyanese that all those who orchestrated and executed public mayhem across Guyana last evening will be brought to justice.

On his official Facebook page the Head of State said, “this morning, I had the difficult task of speaking to dozens of persons who were harmed, robbed and/or injured by criminal elements yesterday. I expressed our collective concern and love as law-abiding citizens. I assured them that those responsible for inflicting pain, harm, injury and damage would be prosecuted according to the law”.
The President committed full support to ensure affected individuals, and their families receive justice. He noted, “the pain of innocent women and children is always the worst and hardest to imagine. Some of the stories were deeply troubling and horrific. I assured these individuals and families of my support and commitment to ensuring they, too, receive justice”.
The country last evening saw nationwide destruction of public and private properties by rioters. Major throughfares were set on fire, preventing movement by ordinary citizens, some returning home from work, some going to work, and others traversing the roadways at the time. Moreover, private business establishments were broken into and looted, and scores of ordinary citizens were physically injured and remain traumatized.
As a result, the Minister of Home Affairs ordered a curfew with immediate effect preventing any gatherings, assemblies or marches between 12:30am and 5:00am.
