Adi Shankaracharya deserves highest veneration
Today we observe Adi Shankaracharya Jayanti or Birth Anniversary. It should or supposed to have been an important day for reflection and gratitude on the immense, sterling and indelible contributions of Bhagavaan Sri Adi Shankarachaarya to the revival and systemization of Hindu Philosophies; the interpretation and commentaries on the Upanishads; and the propagation of the Advaita Vedanta School of Thought.
Adi Shankaracharya came a Realized Being and within the short life of 32 years, he not only revived the Advaita Vedanta Philosophy, but at the tender age 16 he wrote his commentary on the Bhagavad Geeta and other Non-dualistic philosophical literatures. In fact, the Shankara was the one credited for taking the Bhagavad Geeta out of the Mahabharata; popularized it; and wrote extensive commentaries on the Upanishads and the Brahma Sutras.
Adi Shankaracharya did all of this at a time when Hinduism was at its crucial moments of decline. Had it not been for the Shankara, we cannot help what Hinduism and Vedanta would have been today. We owe Adi Shankaracharya a debt of gratitude.
May we on this auspicious day, commit ourselves to study his life, works and teachings. May he inspire us all! Happy Sri Shankaracharya Jayanti!
