Sri Krishna: The Supreme Personality

Sri Krishna: The Supreme Personality

Sri Krishna’s Message has been an eternal source of inspiration, not only to spiritual aspirants, but also to patriots and philanthropists, social and religious reformers, politicians, and leaders of people everywhere. He has been a model of perfection, a nation-builder, a creator of unity among diverse creeds, a friend of the lowly and down-trodden, a sworn enemy of the wicked and a Savior of the virtuous; an embodiment of love, grace, and beauty on the one hand, and of power, glory and magnificence on the other. He boldly declares: “Wherever there is glory, prosperity and splendor, know that to be a manifestation of a fraction of My Divine Power. I uphold the entire universe by a fraction of My Energy. There exists nothing else besides Me. Everything is strung on Me, like clusters of beads on a string.” (10:42. & 7:7).

Lord Sri Krishna represents the Soul of Hinduism. It was He who synthesized the ideals of disinterested Action (Karma Yoga), Knowledge (Jnaana Yoga), and Devotion (Bhakti Yoga). He preached the doctrine of harmony among all sects, and it was He who pronounced once and for all the reason for God incarnating in the famous verses:“Whenever there is a decline of Righteousness, and a rise of un-righteousness, then I body Myself forth. For the protection of the virtuous and the destruction of evil, I come into being from age to age.” (Gita 4: 7-8).

Sri Krishna was more than a religious reformer, because He came not to change, or condemn or destroy those who came before Him, but to fulfill their teachings.“The same ancient and Supreme Teaching has this day been imparted by Me. Through long lapse of time, this Teaching became lost.” (Gita 4: 2-3).He declares that all Pathways ultimately lead to the same goal of God-realization, and that the different Paths which people follow are all His Pathways.

“Howsoever men seek Me, even so do I approach them; for all persons follow My path in every way.” (4:11).

This verse brings out the universal outlook of Krishna’s Gita-Religion. The God of the Gita, Sri Krishna, meets every aspirant with favour and grants to each his heart’s desires. He does not extinguish the hope of any, but helps everyone to grow according to his nature. Even those who worship other and lesser deities (devatas) with expectation of reward find what they seek by the grace of Lord Krishna.“Those whose wisdom have been carried away by various desires, being prompted by their own nature, worship other deities, (demi-gods) adopting rites relating to each.

“Those devotees, who worship other deities, are in reality worshipping Me only, though their approach is not correct. With faith, however, they obtain their desires, which are really ordained by Me.” (9:23; 7:20-22).
