The holy period of Vasant Navaraatri was observed by Hindus in Guyana and abroad during March 29 and April 5. Mandirs across the country were seen buzzing with nightly worship, Satsangh and various activities in observance of the sacred festival.
In Guyana two Navaraatris are observed annually viz., Sharad Navaraatri in September/October and Vansant Navaraatri in March/April. While Sharad Navaraatri essentially worships the feminine aspect of the Divine which represents the phenomenal cosmic energy, Vasant Navaraatri is observed for the birth of Lord Sri Raama which is the culmination of the entire festival—Raam Navami. As such, it is also referred to Raam Navaraatri.

As Vasant Navaraatri, the festival heralds spring and celebrates the rejuvenation of nature and creates the impetus for spiritual refresh. Its theme blends philosophically with human natural journey to unite with the Purusha—the ultimate existence using the Prakriti—phenomenal nature as the vehicle.
It is also called Chaitra Navaraatri as it falls on the first day of the Hindu month of Chaitra, hence the Hindu New Year.
