Bihar Museum, Culture Ministry, Indian High Commission, et al. to host Folk Art Exhibition on Goddess Seeta

The Bihar Museum, Government of Bihar, India, the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport, Guyana, High Commission of India to Guyana and the Swami Vivekananda Cultural Centre, Georgetown, Guyana are collaborating to host a one-month long Folk Art Exhibition on Mother Seeta from May 5 to June 4, 2025, at the Guyana National Museum, Georgetown.

The exhibition theme, “Seeta—The Daughter of Bihar”, will showcase all major aspects of the life of Mother Seeta—her birth, childhood, marriage, exile, abduction, et al. through various traditional art forms.

Mother Seeta, like Lord Raama is a source of Hindu identity in Guyana, the West Indies and North America not only through the Ramayana Epic which held the Indian Hindu Indentured Laborers together in cultural identity during colonialism and after, but also as the exhibition’s theme captured, “the Daughter of Bihar”—the region from which majority of Indian Indentured Laborers came to Guyana from 1838 onwards. Hence Goddess Seeta represents Hindu historical, religious and Dharmic values which have shaped Hindu lives, culture, identity and ethos over centuries outside of India.
